Looking to buy buffalo online in india? Pashushala makes it easy to compare buffaloes across India by breed, age, milk yield, lactation, price, health condition and seller location. Whether you are a dairy farmer, livestock trader or first-time buyer, the platform shows you verified listings from sellers across 15+ states, so you can review animal details, photos and prices from your phone before reaching out. Buying a buffalo is one of the most important investments a farmer makes. The right animal — right breed, right age, right health condition — can transform dairy income for years. The wrong purchase can mean financial loss and months of recovery. This guide walks you through what to check, what questions to ask, how to verify a seller and how Pashushala connects you with post-purchase support including feed, veterinary help and livestock insurance.
Which Buffalo Breeds Are Best for Indian Farmers?
Murrah is India's best dairy buffalo breed, giving 10–20 litres/day with high fat and available widely in Haryana, Punjab and UP. Jafarabadi from Gujarat is the heaviest breed and gives 10–16 litres. Surti and Nili-Ravi are popular in Gujarat and Punjab respectively. Banni buffaloes from Kutch are hardy and drought-resistant. Each breed is suited to different climates, feed availability and production goals. Before buying, identify your primary purpose — milk production, breeding or both — and match the breed to your region's climate and available fodder. A high-yield HF cow in an area with poor fodder supply will underperform compared to an indigenous breed well-adapted to local conditions. Ask the seller which breeds are most common in your district and get recommendations from local dairy cooperatives or a veterinarian before finalising a breed.
What Is the Price of a Buffalo in India?
Buffalo prices in India typically range from ₹40,000 to ₹2,50,000+, depending on breed, age, milk yield or weight, lactation stage, health condition, seller location and current market demand. High-producing animals from reputed farms and verified sellers command a premium. Younger animals at peak lactation are priced higher than older animals or those in early or late lactation. Always compare multiple listings for similar animals before finalising a price. Negotiate only after personally verifying the animal's details, photos and health records. Seasonal demand around festivals and lean milk seasons can push prices up.
Key Health Checks Before Buying a Buffalo
Check vaccination records for FMD, HS and Brucellosis. Examine the udder for symmetry and absence of hardness or lumps. Buffalo should have clear eyes, firm hooves and a healthy skin fold. Thin buffaloes with visible ribs may be undernourished and need time to recover before peak production. Always ask the seller for recent vaccination certificates and a health history. If possible, arrange for an independent veterinarian to inspect the animal before purchase. For long-distance purchases, request a video call to walk through the animal's movement, udder condition and overall demeanour. Pashushala listings include seller-uploaded photos and detailed animal information to help you shortlist before visiting.
Transport and Delivery After Buying a Buffalo
Buffaloes tolerate heat less well than cows. Transport in cooler hours — early morning or evening. Ensure adequate water access before and after the journey. A stressed buffalo may withhold milk for 2–3 days after a long journey — this is normal and usually resolves with good care. Pashushala connects buyers with transport options and provides guidance on safe livestock movement. Always confirm transport costs, timeline and insurance coverage before finalising the deal. Keep the Pashushala enquiry reference handy — our team can assist with post-purchase coordination if needed.
Government Schemes and Financial Support for Buffalo Buyers
National Livestock Mission (NLM) supports buffalo breed improvement. NABARD dairy loans cover buffalo purchase under the dairy development scheme. The Blue Revolution initiatives also increasingly include buffalo dairy units. Many state governments offer subsidies under the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF). Before purchasing, check with your local Animal Husbandry Department or NABARD branch for active subsidy schemes. Keep all purchase receipts and animal identification records, as they are required for scheme applications and insurance claims. Pashushala can connect you with livestock insurance support through the insurance enquiry flow, which covers animals from the point of policy issue.
What to Do After You Buy a Buffalo
Provide clean water, quality green fodder and concentrate feed from the first day. Allow 7–10 days for adjustment before expecting peak milk yield. Record daily milk output, health observations and any changes in feed intake. Contact Pashushala's vet support if yield drops unexpectedly in the first month. Use Pashushala's ration calculator to plan daily feed for your new animal. Submit a veterinary enquiry if you notice any health concerns in the first few weeks. Browse related products — feed, supplements, medicines and dairy equipment — through PashuKart. Save the seller's contact for any follow-up questions on the animal's background.
