This is not normal drying; in a buffalo it usually points to pregnancy and natural dry period, poor feeding, hidden udder infection, or weakness after some illness. First check if she was mated and may be pregnant. If she is pregnant and close to calving, do not try to force milk. Keep her on good green fodder, dry fodder, clean water, mineral mixture, and proper cooling, because buffaloes suffer more in heat. Then check the udder. If any quarter is hard, painful, hot, or milk had flakes or watery milk before stopping, mastitis may have damaged that quarter. If she is not pregnant and has given no milk for forty five days, milk may not come back fully without examining the udder and reproductive tract. For a lactating buffalo, even eight to fifteen liters per day can mean rupees four hundred to rupees nine hundred seventy five daily income, so finding the cause early protects your pocket. If she has fever, stops eating, foul discharge, swollen udder, or sudden weakness, get a veterinarian to examine her the same day.
