For a dairy cow, Gir, Sahiwal, or HF cross are the best choices. Gir and Sahiwal suit Indian heat well, and HF cross gives higher milk if feed is good. Check the cow in your presence, do a CMT test on all four quarters, ask the lactation month, and verify age and body condition. If the cow is above fifty thousand rupees, take a Pashumitra or vet with you.
