fever
Fever in a cow can be from FMD, tick fever, pneumonia, or even mastitis if the udder is involved. First, keep her in a cool shaded place, give plenty of clean water, and separate her from other animals. Check the mouth, feet, udder, and nose. If there are mouth sores, drooling, or limping, FMD is likely. If there is cough or fast breathing, pneumonia is more likely. If the eyes look pale or there are ticks, tick fever is a strong possibility. If the udder is hot, hard, or painful, think mastitis. Do not give any random medicine on your own. If she is not eating, breathing fast, or the fever is high, she needs a vet visit today. Treating this early protects milk income and prevents the animal from going down further. Consult a veterinarian before administering any medicine or treatment.
