For Sikkim, Jersey is the safer dairy choice than Holstein Friesian. Jersey handles cooler hills better and gives good milk with better fat. HF gives more milk, but only if feed, shed, and cooling are strong. If you want a cow to buy, first milk her in your presence, do a CMT test on all four quarters, check which month of lactation she is in, and verify age and body condition. For a cow above fifty thousand rupees, take a Pashumitra or vet along.
