For under fifty thousand, look for a healthy Sahiwal, Gir, or Jersey cross heifer, or a good HF cross if your shed is cool and feed is strong. Milk her in your presence before paying. Do a CMT test on all four quarters. Ask which month of lactation she is in, because late lactation cows drop fast. For any cow above fifty thousand, take a Pashumitra or vet along.
