I want a good milk cow under my budget.
For milk, look at Sahiwal, Gir, HF cross, or Jersey cross. If you want steady yield, a healthy crossbred or Sahiwal is usually a safer buy than a cheap low-yield cow. First milk her in your presence, then do a CMT test on all four quarters. Ask which month of lactation she is in, because a cow in month seven or eight will soon drop milk. Check age, body condition, and teat shape. If the price is above fifty thousand rupees, take a Pashumitra or vet with you before paying. If you want fifteen liters or more every day, remember one cow gives peak milk only in months two to three, so two cows with staggered calvings are better for steady supply.
