I want a good milk cow under my budget.
For a milk cow, look first at Sahiwal, Gir, HF cross, or Jersey cross. If your budget is tight, a healthy indigenous cow often gives better value because feed cost stays lower and she handles Indian heat better. Before paying, milk her in your presence, do a CMT test on all four quarters, ask which month of lactation she is in, and check age, body condition, and udder health. If you want steady milk, remember one cow gives peak yield only in the early months, then it slowly drops. If you want fifteen litres or more every day, two cows with staggered calvings are better than one. For a purchase above fifty thousand rupees, take a Pashumitra or vet along.
