I want a good milk cow under my budget.
For dairy, go for Sahiwal, Gir, HF cross, or Jersey cross. If your budget is tight, a healthy Sahiwal or Gir is often safer in Indian heat, while HF cross can give more milk if feed and shed are good. Before paying, milk the cow in your presence, do a CMT test on all four quarters, ask which month of lactation she is in, and check body condition and age. If the cow is in month seven or eight of lactation, her yield will fall soon. If you want fifteen litres or more every day, one cow will not stay at peak for long, so two cows with staggered calvings are better. For any cow above fifty thousand rupees, take a Pashumitra or vet with you.
