For a dairy desi cow, Gir and Sahiwal are the best choices. Gir usually gives about six to ten liters a day, and a good one can go higher. Sahiwal is very steady and heat tolerant, with about eight to twelve liters a day. Before paying, milk her in your presence, do a CMT test on all four quarters, check which month of lactation she is in, and verify age and body condition. If the price is above fifty thousand rupees, take a Pashumitra or vet along.
