For dairy buying, choose a Sahiwal, Gir, HF cross, or Jersey cross. First milk the cow in your presence, then do a CMT test on all four quarters, and ask which month of lactation she is in. Avoid a cow above seven years, and check that ribs are not clearly visible. If the price is above fifty thousand rupees, take a Pashumitra or registered vet with you before paying. If you want fifteen liters or more every day, remember one cow will peak only in month two to three, so two cows with staggered calvings are better for steady milk.
