I want to buy a dairy cow, what should I check?

Before paying for a dairy cow, check the milk in your presence first. Strip each quarter separately and see the output. Then do a CMT test on all four quarters. If it turns purple or violet, do not buy. Ask which month of lactation she is in, because month two to three is peak and month seven to eight can drop fast. Prefer a cow of three to five years, in second or third lactation, with good body condition and no clear ribs or hip bones. Also ask for FMD and HS vaccination proof from the last six months. If the price is above fifty thousand rupees, take a Pashumitra or vet for physical checking before payment. For dairy, good choices are Sahiwal, Gir, HF cross, or Jersey cross. If you want, I can help you shortlist the right cow for your budget.
