I was planning nearly 15 animals
For a dairy unit of fifteen animals, start with a proper shed, fodder land or assured feed supply, and a milk buyer before you buy the animals. In Yadgir, Sahiwal, Gir, HF cross, or Jersey cross cows are good dairy choices, and if you want higher milk volume with stronger local adaptability, crossbreds are often practical. If you want fifteen litres or more from one cow consistently, remember a single cow gives peak milk only in the second to third month after calving, then yield falls, so two cows with staggered calvings are better for steady daily milk. For a unit this size, also think about insurance and a ration plan before purchase. If you are buying animals above fifty thousand rupees each, check milk in your presence, do a CMT test on all four quarters, ask the lactation month, and take a Pashumitra or vet along. Treating the setup properly now saves you from feed loss and poor milk later.
