Mastitis

Mastitis is an udder infection, and the first job is to save that quarter. Strip the affected quarter separately and frequently, about every four hours, and throw that milk away. Keep the udder clean and dry. If the quarter is hot or swollen, keep a cold wet cloth on it for some time. Do not massage hard and do not apply heat in the first twenty four hours. Milk the healthy quarters normally, but always milk the sick quarter last so infection does not spread. Wash hands and clean the teat before and after milking.
