Feed refusal can happen from mouth pain, fever, indigestion, or a rumen upset. First check if the animal has fever, drooling, mouth ulcers, bloating, or loose dung. Give clean water, keep the animal in shade, and offer soft green fodder or a little dry hay instead of forcing feed. If the mouth looks sore, rinse gently with clean water and keep the feed soft. If the belly is swollen, walk the animal slowly and do not force more feed. If it has not eaten for more than one day, or there is fever, bloat, or no dung, it needs a vet today. Treating it now is much cheaper than losing milk and body condition.
