This is a serious skin infection with widespread open wounds, and in a young calf it can turn dangerous fast. Keep him in a clean, dry, fly-free pen right away and separate him from the herd. Wash the wounds gently with clean water, then apply a mild antiseptic solution and keep the sores covered loosely with a clean cloth or gauze so dirt and flies do not enter. Give clean water and soft, easy feed. If he is weak, not drinking, or has fever, he needs a vet today because he may need antibiotic treatment and wound care. Do not apply harsh chemicals, kerosene, or home powders on the wounds. Treating this now is far cheaper than losing the calf or getting a deep infection. Consult a veterinarian before administering any medicine or treatment.
